Zimbabwe

Situated in Southern Africa, Zimbabwe is a land locked country with a land area of about 390000 square kilometers of which 33 3000 is suitable for agricultural purposes and the remainder reserved for National Parks, Wild life as well as urban settlement. With an estimated population of 12.5 million (2003), the country has an average population density of 30 persons per square kilometre, with most densely populated areas approaching 180 persons per square kilometer. Zimbabwe's economy is well balanced between market agriculture, mining, manufacturing and tourism with a considerable subsistence-farming sector.

Zimbabwe as a whole is relatively well endowed with woodlands. Woodlands cover 53% of the total land area whilst bush land covers 13%. Studies indicate that 62% of all households (rural and urban) depend on wood for their domestic energy needs. This figure rises to about 95% when only rural households are considered.
