ImplementationExperience throughout the world have shown that subsidy and
self-help based approaches for wide spread dissemination of
improved cook stoves have not led to a sustainable integration of
stoves into the market. Only a commercial approach where all costs
of production and selling including a benefit are covered will
ensure this (see introduction of Jico stove in Eastern Africa and
various metal stoves in West Africa). Financial support from the
public sector (governments and donors) might have to come in to
support market introduction such as product development, awareness
and marketing campaigns. Respective guidelines and training manual
are presented.
