The small village of Phihetswane in the Borolong district has made history. With a population of less than 300, sandwiched between the villages of Hibron and Borobadilepe and along the Botswana-South Africa border, it is promising that members bought 25 StoveTec stoves in one day. This is an unprecedented record for BPC Lesedi. After being addressed on the services of BPC Lesedi at a meeting in their village two weeks before, the villagers cleared the stock of 12 stoves that the team had brought. There were calls for more stoves and 15 were put on order. When the team returned to the village with excess stock amounting to 25 stoves, they were all bought the same morning.
This shows that the potential demand in this district which far surpasses the four pilot villages. This is also due to the now intensified marketing by BPC Lesedi geared towards bringing services to the people.
The Sekhutlane project kick-started with an energy needs assessment being carried out in the past week. Sekhutlane is set to get a comprehensive energy solution in the form of a centralised mini-grid complemented by household and institutional, efficient, wood stoves. The team was also shown a plot that has been allocated by the village elders for the PV power station.
